New tile for our bathroom!
I'm so so so excited. For as long as L has owned his house, he has been living with some seriously ugly tile in his bathroom. Not only are the tiles ugly, they are very strange - they are 6"x6" plastic grey/marbled tiles, something I've never seen anywhere else. The grey tiles are the overall field tile, and then - to make things worse - the bathroom is finished with BLACK accent tiles at the top. Gag. Lately, they have begun popping off the walls, since I suppose the moisture from the shower has been causing their thin-set to deteriorate. Assuming the tiles are original to the house (built in 1941), this totally makes sense.
He has always wanted to replace all the tile, but never had the time or the money to invest in it. Now that I've moved in, we'd made some serious headway on the bathroom. We (he, mostly, while I cleaned the house) spent all of Saturday chipping away at these ugly tiles, and after a lot of cursing and swearing, L successfully removed the toilet in order to get the rest of the tiles off the wall (and then reinstalled it when I couldn't hold it any longer).
And look what we're replacing it with! We've decided to cover the entire vanity wall with a lovely mosaic tile. It's a mixture of glass and stone, and it is truly breathtaking. This is one advantage of working at an architectural firm. Me + new cool products + designer discount = one happy couple.

I'll be sure to post pictures of our (soon-to-be) finished bathroom!

Hello!
Well, L doesn't know it yet, but he's started a blog with me. How does it look? After having my own blog for awhile, I decided that to start everything off right we should have a blog together. Right? So the J Smith's blog has been born. We're not even married yet and I'm already making fun of my new last name. Well, not fun, really, but what are the odds of going from one very very common last name (Miller), to another? Ah, I suppose the odds are pretty good now that I think about it.
I always joke with L that it is ironic that I wound up with him, when my previous suitors all had weird and polysyllabic (isn't that a great word?) last names. I'm talking mouthfuls of syllables. So now I just think it's funny that not only are we sharing a veryboring common last name, we are also blessed with incredibly common first names. Thus, our blog was born. Boring names, exciting couple!
Anyway,my our idea for this blog is to write about ourselves. Yep, we're that vain. We'll write about what we do, what we cook, what we take pictures of. Well, ok, what I take pictures of. I'm the one with the camera, and L isn't too interested in snapping shots. That's what I do.
Anyway,I we hope that this blog will be enjoyable for everyone who follows it (hi, mom).
Since most people don't want to read a lot in a blog post, I'll leave you with a picture that I took a few weeks ago. This is just one of the numerous pots of chrysanthemum that we have on our front porch. Pretty, no?
